I recently read an article on EatThis.com that ranked the 19 most popular chocolate bars based on toxicity. Toxicity was not defined, but the article examined each candy bar based on (i) calories; (ii) fat content; (iii) sodium; (iv) carbohydrates; and (v) protein. Here are the results from most to least toxic.
- 3 Musketeers
- Milky Way
- Baby Ruth
- Chocolatey PayDay
- Mr. Goodbar
- Snickers
- Twix
- Butterfinger
- Nestle Crunch
- Dove Milk Chocolate Bar
- Mounds
- Whatchamacallit
- Hershey’s Original Milk Chocolate
- Almond Joy
- Kit Kat Birthday Cake
- Cadbury Caramello
- Heath Bar
- Reese’s Take 5
- 100 Grand
You can read the full article here. www.eathis.com/worst-candy-bars-ranked/. Surprisingly, the 3 Musketeers was the winner as the most toxic candy bar due to a whopping 36 grams of sugar in one bar. As noted in the article, the American Heart Association recommends no more than 36 grams of sugar per day for an adult male. What impact will that 3 Musketeers have on your child? Something to think about as Halloween approaches.
If you aren’t familiar with Reese’s Take 5, this candy bar has five main components—peanuts, peanut butter, pretzels, caramel, and chocolate—that are each high in calories, sugar, fat, or a combination of the three. Although these ingredients can be enjoyed separately in moderation, combining them all into one monstrous candy bar spells disaster for your health .
