Christina Yen, the founder of A Yen For Chocolate, is another chocolatier who followed a different career path before finding her passion for chocolate. Christina’s father was in the diplomatic service. As a result Christina traveled the world as a child and in the process she learned five languages. She subsequently worked in global finance using her language skills but corporate life did not resonate with her. Upon relocating to Portland with her husband, Christina rethought her career. She attended culinary school focusing on Patisserie and Baking. There, she realized that food brings people together. Chocolate became her passion because it struck her as a universal language appealing to the tastes and sensibilities of people regardless of background. Christina focuses on bite sized chocolate treats that makes one’s eyes light up like salted caramel with brandy and cardamom and chocolate covered orangettes.
